"There's such a luscious feeling to smearing oil paint on the hard surface of a board and then moving it around with rags, brushes and other tools. Making this painting work was a balance in playing with this process, but also using restraint so it remained fresh and immediate.
The gold-green of the field struck such a vibrant contrast against the purple hills in the background, and yet there was a shifting translucency and focus with the sheets of misty rain moving across the scene, a delicacy in appearance that I wanted to convey. I also love the way the thin paint in the sky area followed the brush marks in the gesso ground on the board—it summed up the rainy summer day I wanted to capture."
Framed in a contemporary black wood tray frame and ready to hang.
Finished with a low-sheen varnish for protection.
