Painted in 2020, during the first Covid-19 Lockdown and inspired by the views, seasons and weather I experienced in and around the village of Cawthorne, South Yorkshire, where I lived at the time. Painting was a way of working my head through the strange situation. The sun was going down over the orchard at the back of our home, and it caught the grass, which glowed up this incredible neon-green against a dramatic post-storm purple sky.

Shortlisted for New Light Art Prize 2020-21

Framed in a contemporary black wood tray frame and ready to hang.

Finished with a low-sheen varnish for protection.

Shipped free of charge to the UK and Ireland.

If you live outside the UK, please contact me for an international shipping quote before making your purchase.

About the Artist

Julia Brown is a UK-based painter creating quiet, immersive works rooted in light, texture and the natural world. Her paintings invite stillness, reflection, and sensory connection.

Her work explores the emotional experience of place—especially the fleeting beauty of Komorebi—the Japanese concept of sunlight filtering through trees.

She exhibits regularly across the UK, has been shortlisted for the New Light Art Prize and the Cooper Prize, and teaches at North Light Art School in West Yorkshire.
