Inspiration:

This painting is for those days when the world feels dull and you need a lift.

Named after a line from Burnt Norton by T.S.Eliot, a poem reflecting on memories of life, the passing of time and autumn.

I glanced up, and there it was—a canopy of riotous colour on a dreary Autumn afternoon. Light filtering through orange-glowing backlit leaves of a cherry tree, rich with crimson and gold.

Into the Glow of Autumn started as expressive charcoal doodles over a textured acrylic ground scattered with marble powder. I added abstract acrylic marks and splashes of autumn colour as a base. It became something increasingly meditative as I slowed down, layering oil paint to show the filtering light and dimensions of leaves. You can see where tools scratched back, where the paint clings and slips, and the history of the painting in its layers.

Teal, burnt orange, copper and crimson stains, scrapes and inky lines dance against the palest green-grey sky.

A textured celebration of autumn which lights the wall up, it's a hopeful defiance of mundanity - perfect for a room vignette where you want to focus the gaze.

This piece is from a body of work exploring the Japanese concept of 'Komorebi' (the feeling and atmosphere of light filtering through trees).
