Inspired by Robert Frost’s poem of the same name, this painting explores the fleeting brilliance of seasonal light.

Standing beneath trees in early autumn, there’s often a moment when the leaves flare gold against a cool sky—luminous, intense, and already shifting. That threshold between fullness and change sits at the heart of this work.

I feel Frost’s words echo an older piece of wisdom often attributed to Persian tradition: this too shall pass. Not as resigned melancholy, but as perspective.

Nature doesn’t stop and cling: it turns, shifts and lets go.
And in life, we do the same.
The golden seasons don’t last…but the dark, difficult ones don’t either.

This painting is that threshold moment—brilliance meeting shadow, fading warmth edged with an east-wind change. The colour feels intense precisely because it is fleeting.

It’s about standing inside the light while it’s here.
And trusting that when it moves on, something else will come.

This piece is from a body of work exploring the Japanese concept of 'Komorebi' (the feeling and atmosphere of light filtering through trees).

Built up from dropped/splattered paint of different densities mixed on the surface and subsequent layers of opaque paint and transparent glazed paint.

Framed in a contemporary black wood tray frame and ready to hang.

Finished with a low-sheen varnish for protection.
