It was a grey October afternoon. One of those days where the damp cold clings to your skin.
Against the dull sky and dull car park, I spotted an explosion of red—flickering, layered and alive—and was drawn to this singular maple tree. The light scattering through the canopy in fractured shapes. Leaves like flames and shadows shifting together. It caught me off guard.
This painting is one of four echoes of that moment. Built in layers from spontaneous charcoal doodles, abstract acrylic scrapes and splatters, and oil paint brushmarks that only happen when you're not overthinking it. The light is painted in reverse—a kaleidoscope of shapes and colour.
Crimson, burnt orange, deep yellows and glimpses of cool teal hum amongst the layers.
This is the kind of painting that makes you lean in closer. You can almost smell the damp leaves. It's an invitation to pause, and a reminder to look up every so often.
This piece is from a body of work exploring the Japanese concept of 'Komorebi' (the feeling and atmosphere of light filtering through trees).

Shipping Delivery & Returns
Shipping:
Each painting is shipped out of my studio in Yorkshire within 2 weeks of the purchase date.
Artwork is signed, varnished and prepared for safe shipment. It will then be boxed or crated to ensure it arrives with you in perfect condition. All originals are dispatched by courier, tracked and insured, or if you are local to West Yorkshire, UK I can deliver by hand by arrangement.
Delivery:
Once your order has been processed, I will be in touch within 48hrs to arrange a convenient delivery date.
Returns:
Artworks can be returned (insured) providing they are undamaged and in all of the original packaging.
If you would like to return a purchase, or in the unfortunate event your purchase arrives damaged, please follow the steps on the How to Return Artworks page.
I do not accept returns on sale/discounted items, bespoke framed artwork, or any artwork that is made to commission or personalised in any way.
Packaging
Original artwork is signed (sometimes on the reverse), wrapped in oil-resistant glassine paper (or tissue if a non-oil based media), and layers of protective packaging, before being boxed. Corners are protected and the package is marked fragile so that it arrives in pristine condition ready for you to hang.
Each original includes a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by the artist for provenance.
