On a grey afternoon in a mundane car park, I found a fiery red maple tree, and looked up through the stained glass canopy of shifting leaves.

This painting is one of four that captures that fleeting moment. Ever-changing shapes of light through the tangled weave of crimson and red maple leaves. A pause in time where everything slows down, and the world outside melts away.

This semi-abstract painting is rich with layered brushstrokes, scraped textures, and glimpses of teal—the palest green-grey sky teasing through foliage.

It began with instinctive charcoal marks and a cascade of abstract splatters in acrylic paint, then built up and refined in oils. Each leaf shape is suggested, not explicitly formed, letting your eye piece together the memory.

A jewel-like little painting which will light the wall up in defiance of mundanity.

This is from a body of work exploring the Japanese concept of 'Komorebi' (the feeling and atmosphere of light filtering through trees).

Framed in a contemporary black wood tray frame and ready to hang.

Finished with a low-sheen varnish for protection.
